ABOUT THE ROLE
This role exists because people from multicultural backgrounds often face significant barriers when seeking mental health and wellbeing support. Language barriers, cultural stigma, trauma, social isolation and unfamiliarity with Australian systems can make it difficult to access help when it is needed most.
As a Multicultural Support and Wellbeing Worker, you will provide culturally responsive psychosocial support and brief Low intensity mental health interventions to people across Queensland via our specialist telephone service. You will support clients experiencing a wide range of challenges, including mental health concerns, trauma, suicidality, gambling harm, alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues, social isolation and complex life circumstances.
Each day you will engage with callers, conduct psychosocial assessments, provide supportive counselling, develop practical support plans, advocate for clients, and connect people with health, mental health and community services that can improve their wellbeing and recovery.
Most importantly, you will help people feel heard, understood and empowered. Your work will directly contribute to reducing barriers to care, increasing access to support, and improving mental health outcomes for multicultural communities throughout Queensland.
You’ll join a passionate team that is committed to health equity, trauma-informed practice and culturally responsive care.
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for someone passionate about supporting multicultural communities and making a genuine difference.
We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of migration, multilingual candidates and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
